A Simple Local SEO Checklist for Guwahati Businesses

Most local businesses are invisible on Google for the exact searches that would bring them customers. Here's a practical checklist to fix that.

A Simple Local SEO Checklist for Guwahati Businesses

If someone searches "best [your category] near me" in Guwahati right now, would your business show up? For most local businesses we talk to, the honest answer is no — not because their business isn't good, but because nobody's told Google where they are and what they do.

Here's a practical checklist to start fixing that this week.

Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
This is the single highest-impact thing you can do. Make sure your business name, address, phone number, category, and hours are all filled in and accurate. An incomplete profile is a missed opportunity every single day it stays that way.

Keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere
Your business details should read exactly the same on your website, your Google Business Profile, Facebook, Justdial, and any other directory you're listed on. Even small inconsistencies — "Rd" versus "Road", a missing floor number — can quietly hurt how much Google trusts your listing.

Add real photos, regularly
Listings with recent, genuine photos of the storefront, products, or team get more clicks than listings with none. Update them every month or two rather than uploading five photos once and never returning.

Ask happy customers for Google reviews
Reviews are both a trust signal for customers and a ranking signal for Google. Don't wait for people to leave them unprompted — a simple WhatsApp message after a good experience asking for a quick review works well.

Use location-specific language on your website
If your homepage never mentions Guwahati, Assam, or your specific neighbourhood, Google has less reason to associate your site with local searches. Naturally weave your location into your homepage, About page, and contact details.

Make sure your site works properly on mobile
Most local searches happen on a phone, often while someone is already nearby. A slow or awkward mobile site loses customers exactly when they're closest to visiting.

None of this requires an agency to get started — you can work through this list yourself in an afternoon. Where it gets harder is doing it consistently, tracking what's actually moving the needle, and keeping it current as your business grows. That's usually where we come in.
